When learning a language, we often think we need to know all the grammar, memorize endless vocabulary lists, or follow textbooks for months.
But in reality... that’s rarely what helps us speak naturally.

This is exactly where the Ohlala Method comes from — a method I developed over the years through my lessons and conversations with learners from all over the world.
It’s based on one simple idea:

conversation is the engine of your learning.

Why learn French through conversation?

When you speak, your brain must activate several skills at the same time:

  • understand your interlocutor’s words,

  • build your sentences in real time,

  • choose the right tone and register,

  • and correct your mistakes on the spot.

In other words, every conversation is a complete workout — far more effective than vocabulary flashcards or isolated exercises.

And above all, speaking regularly helps you build automatic reflexes — those natural habits that take you from “I’m translating in my head” to “I’m thinking directly in French.”

Where does the Ohlala Method come from?

I created this method after personally experiencing the same kind of block that many learners feel.
When I moved to an English-speaking country, I thought I had a good level of English.
But the moment I had to speak... everything froze.
I knew the words and the rules, but I didn’t dare use them.

That day, I realized something essential:

We don’t progress when we know more, we progress when we speak more.

From that experience was born the Ohlala Method: Immerse yourself, speak, progress.

The 3 steps of the Ohlala Method:

1️⃣ Immerse yourself

Before speaking, you need to listen.
Watch, read, and listen to real French: videos, articles, authentic conversations.
This immersion connects you to the language as it’s truly spoken — with its expressions, intonations, and rhythm.

2️⃣ Speak

This is the heart of the method.
In every session, you practice with a native teacher or other learners.
You make mistakes (and that’s okay!), you get feedback, you reformulate...
Little by little, your speech becomes more fluent, natural, and confident.

3️⃣ Progress

By practicing regularly, you start to feel the results:
you understand faster, you gain spontaneity, and you’re no longer afraid to express yourself.
And this progress motivates you to keep going — it’s a virtuous circle.

Why does this method really work?

Because it follows the natural functioning of your brain.
You don’t learn French “as a subject,” but as a living skill.
Each conversation helps you move forward a little more.
Each word becomes easier to remember because you’ve experienced it in a real context.

And most importantly, speaking builds confidence — something many learners struggle with.

Where to practice this method?

It’s the foundation of everything we do at Ohlala French Course.
Our lessons, resources, podcasts, and conversations all follow this same principle of learning through real practice.

If you want to explore this approach in a more structured way, you can find it in our main program: Ohlala French School, where every activity is designed to help you speak French in real life, not just study it.

In summary

Learning French through conversation means learning to:

  • understand French people as they truly speak,

  • express yourself with naturalness and fluency,

  • and above all, feel like yourself in another language.

So next time you want to “revise your French,” ask yourself:

What if I just had a conversation with someone today?
